Why should we choose “Doctor” as a career?

January 31, 2022

When applying to the course of Medical, it is necessary to consistently and effectively answer the question "why do you want to become a doctor?". in your personal statement. Then you have to answer the question again at each interview, but this time for a panel of interviewers. It is difficult to know which answers were considered "good" by the admissions committees and which were "bad". Of course, it's a matter of opinion and everyone has a different combination of factors to be a doctor. However, there is a reason why some people come to medical school and others do not (except for degrees and MCAT, of course). Applicants who have effectively demonstrated to admissions committees the right motivation and skills to become good doctors are admitted. So here is a list of possible reasons to become a doctor. If you only knew one or two of these factors, you probably don't have the right motivation to become a doctor.

reasons to become a doctor

1. Help others in a unique way

Most people value their health first and foremost in their lives, whether they know it or not. When someone is sick or injured, their normal lifestyle is disrupted and doctors have a unique opportunity to bring those people back to normal and even save some of the deaths themselves. So being a doctor is extremely rewarding.

2. Medicine is interesting

Being a doctor means learning everything you need to know about the human body. The human body itself is an incredible thing to study, and medical students and doctors have the opportunity to further study it using the latest technology. From heart pumps to painkillers to devices that can search the human heart, modern medicine remains one of the most interesting topics in the world. We use the knowledge of biology, biomechanics, physics and even psychology to help people achieve the highest quality of life, despite a variety of challenges, we always found the working of the human body fascinating, and using  knowledge of it to help others. Doctors haven’t been disappointed, and have found a welcome challenge in every patients.

3. Never faced boring time

Doctors treat different types of people with different diseases every day. Different experiences guarantee that there is some excitement every day.

4.  Chance to establish meaningful relationships

Doctors who have the opportunity to see the same patients all the time can build meaningful relationships with them. Each time doctors work closely with other doctors (seniors or juniors) and medical students, they have the chance to create a harmonious and friendly relation with each other. Their joy, passion and desire to serve others inspire doctors.

5. Stability of career

The medical field is less affected by the ups and downs of the economy. Doctors are always needed so you don't have to worry about the changing job market like most other jobs.

6. High fees

One might argue that doctors don't have enough money, but they still make a lot of money. The national average salary for a general internist, a field at the bottom of the pay spectrum, is still nearly $ 200,000.

7. Trust and honor

Thanks to their title, doctors are familiar with sensitive information that is inaccessible to most other people. Patients share their deep concerns with their doctors in hopes of recovery. It is a great honor to believe this great of all.

8. Power and respect

Like it or not, doctors are usually in a position of power. They are considered leaders in healthcare and always have the final say in treatment decisions. When doctors talk, people usually listen. Even outside the workplace, doctors are highly valued (for example, how it would change your impression of someone if you knew he was a doctor).

9. It requires critical thinking and problem solving

Doctors must use their intelligence and technical knowledge to treat patients. Many doctors are pleased with the challenge of diagnosing a patient and finding the best way to treat them. Many surgeons and other procedure-based physicians like to work with their hands to detect and correct problems.
