The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of Nepal is an independent and autonomous constitutional body. It has a separate sphere of responsibilities in the constitutional legal system of the country. The Interim Constitution of Nepal 2007 (2063 BS) has made the NHRC a constitutional body. National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) shall remain in his/her office up to 6 years from the date of appointment.
The main function of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC)
- To protect human rights.
- To prevent the cases related to violation of human rights.
- To investigate the cases related to violation of human rights.
- To collect proofs/ evidences related to the cases of violation of human rights.
- To demand and pressurize the government to provide compensation and justice to the victims.
- To recommend to government to take necessary action/ punish the one who has violate the human rights of others.
Qualification (One should)
- be Nepali citizen of 45 years.
- have bachelors degree.
- have 20 years of experience in related field.
- have high moral character.
- Not be active member of any political parties.
