The rate of natural increase can be defined as the total number of the increased population due to natural process (i.e., fertility and mortality) per one hundred mid-year population of a certain place in a given year. The rate of natural increase includes the growth by natural processes only. It excludes the phenomenon of population change by the migration process. The natural processes are fertility and mortality. In simple words, the rate of natural increase in the difference between the crude birth rate and crude death rate. The population growth rate is the total increment of population per one thousand people in a given year at a given place. The Rate of Natural Increase (RNI) differs from the general population growth rate as it does not include the impact of population change through the process of migration.
