Mortality is the occurrence of death. The demographic tools that measure the condition of death occurrence are known as mortality rates. Some of the mortality rates are as follows:
- Crude death rate (CDR)
- Age-specific death rate (ASDR)
- Infant mortality rate (IMR)
- Child mortality rate (CMR)
Crude death rate (CDR)
The total number of deaths in a year per 1000 mid-year population is called crude death rate.
Formula,
\(\frac{Number\;of\;deaths\;during\;a\;year}{Mid-Year\;population\;in\;that\;year}\times1000\)
Age-specific death rate (ASDR)
The total number of death of a particular age group per 1000 mid-year population of that age group is called the age-specific death rate.
Formula,
\(\frac{Number\;of\;deaths\;at\;age\;group\;"I"\;a\;year}{Mid-Year\;population\;at\;age\;group\;"I"\;in\;that\;year}\times1000\)
Infant mortality rate (IMR)
The annual number of death of infants under one year of age per 1000 live births is called the infant mortality rate.
Formula,
\(\frac{Number\;of\;infant\;deathhs\;under\;one\;year\;of\;age\;in\;a\;year}{Total\;number\;of\;live\;birth\;in\;that\;year}\times1000\)
Child mortality rate (CMR)
The number of deaths of children under age five per 1000 mid-year population of children is called mortality rate.
Formula,
\(\frac{Total\;number\;of\;death\;of\;children\;in\;a\;year}{Mid\;year\;population\;of\;children\;in\;the\;same\;year}\times1000\)
