On a cloudy day, the air becomes moist and humidity increases in moist air which results in to decrease in the density of air. Since the velocity of sound is inversely proportional to the square root of the density of the medium (i.e., \(v\propto\frac1{\sqrt\rho}\) ), the velocity of sound increases on a cloudy day.
