Solution:
Given,
Let, the velocity of the vehicle 'A', VA = 40 m/s
the velocity of the vehivle 'B', VB = 30 m/s
Distance traveled by (A) , SA = ?
Distance traveled by (B), SB = ?
Time take (t) = 2 minutes = 120 s
Now, for vehicle 'A', we have
VA = 40 m/s
Or, SA = VA × t = 40 × 120 = 4800 m
∴ the distance traveled by car 'A' is 4800 m due east.
Now, for vehicle 'B', we have
VB = 30 m/s
Or, SB = VB × t = 30 × 120 = 3600 m
∴ the distance traveled by car 'B' is 3600 m due west.
Finally, the distance between them after 2 min = SA + SB = 4800 m + 3600 m = 8400 m
