Owning a Dog: Advantages and Disadvantages
Dogs are common pets in many houses. Indeed owning or keeping a dog at home has many advantages as well as disadvantages.
Dogs in particular are considered to be very close to humans and have been domesticated for ages. The best thing about owning them is that they become men's best friends. They form a close bond with their human owners. One of the good things about them is the way they snuggle up close to them for comfort and follow them everywhere. Experts say that pets like dogs are very therapeutic and can increase the life period of humans. Elderly people don't like to live alone. The best thing about owning a dog is that we have to allocate the time for exercise. We can walk or jog daily with them. This not only provides opportunities for doing owners to establish close contact with them, but it also forces them to keep themselves fit in the process. Apart from being a source of exercise, a dog would lay down its life for its master. The dogs warn their owners about impending dangers, such as fire, accidents, and robbery. Thus, the good thing about having a dog is getting security against home intruders. Furthermore, the service dogs like labradors assist the blind and old people in basic tasks like crossing the road, answering the phone, and others. Despite these, keeping a dog has disadvantages too.
The disadvantage of keeping a dog is to have the responsibility of treating them. They need feeding, exercise, medical treatment, and yearly vaccination. The worst is the things that owners must ensure that the surrounding is kept clean. You have to collect and dispose of the dog waste properly. Another disadvantage is to chain the dog for a long time. They bark unnecessarily and create nuisance and discomfort in the neighborhood.
Hence, whatever the arguments are, keeping dogs has more advantages than disadvantages. Dogs play an important role in providing companionship and comfort for their owners, though the difficulties of caring for them like human babies are still there.
