Pituitary gland controls and stimulates various activities of the body and secretion of other endocrine gland. So pituitary gland is called master gland.
The pituitary gland itself consists of 2 major structures:
-
Anterior lobe
-
Posterior lobe
Each lobe of the pituitary gland makes certain hormones. Anterior lobe produces Growth hormone, Prolactin, ACTH, TSH, FSH, LH. Posterior lobe produces : Oxytocin and ADH . Because, it produces so many hormones, the pituitary gland senses the body's needs and sends signals to different organs and glands throughout the body to regulate their function and maintain an appropriate environment.
It directly control of testicular activity is performed by the hypothalamic-pituitary complex (or gonadotropic axis): the hypothalamus is an area at the base of the brain that contains clusters of neurons secreting hormones. It is attached to the pituitary gland via the pituitary stem
