Five bulbs are connected in series across 220-volt lines. If one bulb is fused, the remaining bulbs are again connected across the same line, the later combination will be more illuminated because the power consumed is proportional to the resistance and square of the current. i.e, P ∝ I2R. In the former case, products I2 and R will be less than the latter.
