The difference between server and workstation are :

 

S.N Server S.N Workstation
1. A server is an application or device that performs service for connected clients as part of client server architecture. 1. A computer that is used to power applications such as graphic art, 3-D design, Video Editing, or other CPU/RAM intensive software
2. Often comes with error correcting DDR modules, storage disks are typically in RAID and often have more than one power supply unit along with more than one Network port. Can be run in multiple-CPU setups. 2. No error correcting DDR modules, RAID storage disks aren't typically used. Only one power supply unit and very often only one network port.
3. In server, Operations are internet based. 3. In workstation, Operations are in forms of Business, engineering etc.
4. Operating system used in server are: Linux, Solaris server and windows. 4. Operating system used in workstation are: Unix, Linux or Windows NT.
5. A server can not be a workstation. 5.

Whereas a workstation can be a server.

6. In server, Graphics User Interface (GUI) is optional. 6. In workstation, Graphics User Interface (GUI) is installed.
7. The example of server are: FTP server, web servers etc. 7. The example of workstation are: Video workstations, audio workstations etc.
