Bases of quality of life mean the measures with the help of which quality of life is determined. There are mainly 3 bases of quality of life.
They are:
a) Basic needs-oriented approach
This system was introduced in 1970 AD where the quality of life was determined on the basis of fulfillment of basic needs. There was a concept that those people who were able to fulfill their needs were rich and people who couldn't fulfill their basic needs were poor.
The following needs were judged to determine the living standard of people.
- Food
- Housing
- Health
- Clothes
- Education
- Drinking water and sanitation
b) Physical quality of life
PQLI is the next indicator to determine the quality of life. Mainly three aspects are used to calculate the living standard of people using this indicator. They are:
- Child mortality rate
- Literacy rate
- Life expectancy
c) Human Development Index (HDI)
The human development index is the most common indicator used nowadays to determine the quality of life. HDI is calculated on the following aspects.
- Life expectancy
- Literacy rate
- Per-capital income
