River, lakes, forest, mountains, seas etc are natural resources. Natural resources are the property and wealth of any nation. They help country to develop. The infrastructure and prosperity development of country depends on it. Natural resources are great gift to human kind.
Water is the most important natural resource of Nepal. Nepal is the second richest country in natural resources after Brazil. The main rivers of Nepal are Koshi, Bagmati,Karnali,Gandaki which originate from the Himalayas. Other important rivers are Mechi, Kamala, Babai. These river from mountain region to the Terai region in Nepal and on the way make the land fertile. They are main sources of water in many region. The other sources of water are lake. There are many lakes in Nepal. Water from these lake and rivers are used for many purposes.
Forest are the other main treasured natural resources of Nepal. It occupies about 37% land area of Nepal. Forest is the source of all wood based industry in Nepal.Historically Nepal is rich in wood carving. The forest provides raw material for rubber, paper , match industries. Forest are important medicinally too as they provide medicinal herbs. Many herbs in Nepal are exported to different parts of the world.
The other important natural resource in Nepal are the snow peaked Himalayas of Nepal. The northern part of Nepal has mountains from east to west.There are many highest peak of the world in Nepal. The mountain peaks generate lots of revenues in tourism industry for Nepal. Most of the tourist in the world come to Nepal for the beautiful an adventurous mountains of Nepal. Tourism being the second industry in comparison to agriculture as first in providing livelihood to the population of Nepal. Mountains are very important natural resources in Nepal.
Nepal is highly dependent on natural resources for livelihood and development. Hence we must preserve our natural resources.
