Rotavirus is a viral infection that can cause gastroenteritis. Gastroenteritis is an infection of the gut (intestines) which usually causes infants and children to feel sick with vomiting and diarrhoea.
The first symptoms are usually a high temperature (fever) and being sick (vomiting). Loose watery diarrhea then follows. The diarrhea usually clears up by day 3 but may even last for up to nine days. Your child may also experience uncomfortable stomach cramps. These may disappear each time they pass some diarrhea.
