The policy of extending the territory of a country through war and imposing its own rule over other countries is called imperialism. The policy in which a powerful country rules over a small or weak country is called colonialism.
The practice of imperialism had started along with the origin of human society. The practice of colonialism had started after the industrial revolution that took place in Britain.
Ottoman empire , Roman empire, etc are the examples of it. British rule over India can taken as its example.
Big and powerful countries interfere in the internal affairs of weak countries. So it can be said that the remaining of emperialism is still alive. Colonialism has almost been abolished after the world war-II.
