Characteristics of Tropical Zone: 

  Climatic Region  Characteristics of climate
1. Equatorial region 
  • The sun rays are vertical at the equator throughout the year due to which it is very hot. 
  • The places near the sea have very heavy rainfall every afternoon.
  • There is no change in season. 
  • The length of day and night is equal 12 hr each.  
2. Tropical grassland region 
  • Since it is near to the equator it is very hot. 
  • It has very less rainfall as it lies in the central part of the continent far away from the sea. 
  • It is very hot for about 9 months of the year and very little rainfall occurs at this time. 
  • It is warm but totally dry for about 3 months. 
3. Tropical desert region
  • This region is also very hot as it lies near the equator.
  • It is totally dry as it is far away from the sea lying on the belt of dry trade wind.
  • It is extremely hot at the day and cold at night.
  • Such climate is also called extreme climate.
4. Tropical monsoon region
  • It has summer for six months and winter for six months. 
  • There is plenty of rainfall during the summer. 
  • Winter are often dry.
  • 90% of the total rainfall of the year occurs in summer season. 
  • It has only occasional rainfall in winter.
