National Women Commission Nepal is a constitutional body with the provision of new constitution of Nepal, 2015 .The Commission was established on 7th March 2002. The president appoints them on the recommendation of constitutional council. National Women Commission shall remain in his/her office up to six years from the date of appointment. They are retired in the age of 65 years. There is a provision for one chairperson and 4 other members.The constitution of Nepal has given NWC the responsibility of Gender equality, Women empowerment and to carry out research on any women related legal provisions and strengthen the rules and regulations to minimize social malpractices against women and promote women rights. The commission has timely carried out various awareness programs and promoted women rights for strengthening the position of women in the society. 

The main function of National Women Commission 

  • To protect the rights and freedom of women.
  • To prevent the violation of women rights.
  • To pressurize the government to compensate the victim women.
  • To recommend the government to take action against the one who has violated women rights.
  • To collect proofs of the cases related to the violation of women rights.
  • To investigate the cases related to violation of women rights field in the commissions.

Qualification (One should)

  • be a Nepali citizen
  • be 45 year old.
  • Have passed bachelor's degree to be chairperson
  • have 10 years of experience in related field
  • have high moral character
  • not be the member of any political parties.
  • should not be disqualified by law.
