What is human development index?
1 Answer
The composite indicator that shows the level of economic, health and educational progress of a country is called human development index. The economic growth of a country is not sufficient indicator that a country is prosperous and people of its country are happy and having quality of life and hence human development index (HDI) was created. In other words human development index is a brief description or conclusive measure of aggregate achievement in the key dimensions of human development. They key dimensions of human development are
- Having healthy life with higher life expectancy.
- Being well educated and knowledgeable.
- Having satisfactory quality life and standard of living.
Proper analysis of human development dimensions and their indicators is required to create clear picture of human development index of a country. Human development index doesn't reflect inequalities, poverty, human security, empowerment, etc instead it only gives the overall idea.
