Present the differences between epicenter and hypocenter.
1 Answer
Differences between epicenter and hypocenter are:
Epicenter | Hypocenter |
Epicenter is the point on the earth surface directly above hypocenter where the vibration of the earthquake is felt first. | Hypocenter is the point inside the earth where earthquake originates. |
Its center can be identified exactly with the help of seismograph. | Since the movement of one tectonic plate affects others, its center is expanded in large area inside the earth. |
There can be number of epicenter above one hypocenter. For e.g. the first epicenter of Nepal earthquake 2072 was barpak of gorkha, however the epicenters of aftershocks were seen in ramechhap, dolkha and sinduphalchowk. | The tectonic plate causing one quake will be the same for its aftershocks. For e.g. the tectonic plate causing Nepal earthquake 2072 is the same for number of aftershocks seen in different parts of the country. |
