The folk musical instruments played in our community are described below:

  1. Damaha: it is a drum made from leather, brass or wood.It is semi circular. It is played by striking with a stick called 'gajo'. It is one of the instruments included in the Panche Baja. The traditional players of this instrument are called Damai, a Khas occupational caste.

  2. Tyamko: It looks like the tabla. It is a couple of instruments made of a hollow copper covered with leather. It is played with two sticks called 'gajo'.

  3. Madal: Madal is used mainly for rhythm-keeping in Nepalese folk music. It is very popular and widely used as hand drum in Nepal. The Madal consists of a cylindrical body with a slight bulge at its center and heads at both ends, one head larger than the other. It is usually played horizontally in a seated position, with both heads played simultaneously.

  4. Sarangi: Sarangi is folk musical instruments.Traditionally in Nepal, the Sarangi was only played by people of Gandarbha who sing narrative tales and folk song. It is introduced by Gandharva community of kaski district. It is made by wood of Khirro.
  5. Flute: Traditionally, Flute is made from a single hollow shaft of bamboo with six or seven finger holes. flute is a simple instrument found in numerous ancient cultures.

  6. Narsingha: The Narsinga is a musical instrument like a horn which is the set of panche baja.It is made of copper.It is the half circle in shape. It is blown at one end.

  7. Damphu: Damphu is a double-sided disk- shaped drum topped with leather and without  wooden handle. This instrument is used to melodiously play Tamang selo.

  8. Shanai: Shanai is smaller at the top and gradually bigger at the bottom. It is made of copper. There is a rid on the top which is held between two lips while blowing air. Fingers are played on the various holes it has at the side.
