Evaluate the role of king Tribhuvan in establishing democracy.

1 Answer

Kings were just like puppets during the rana rule. All the state authority would be exercised by the rana prime ministers. Therefore the king would also like to end the rana rule so that they could restore their power. Democracy could be the only option for this. King Tribhuvan among all the kings took risks and made a dramatic escape from the country.

  • The first political party called praja parishad had started anti-rana activities. King Tribhuvan secretly supported it by providing some money and suggestion.
  • Through the Bairgania convention, Nepali congress decided to launch anti-rana movement. He thought it would not be possible to support this movement sitting in the palace. So he, along with all his family members abandoned the throne and went to New Delhi, India.
  • He had decided to stay in New Delhi until the agreement concluded on 1st Falgun. After that, He declared the advent of Democracy in the country ending rana rule.

Since he risked his own life for the establishment of democracy in the country, King Tribhuvan's contribution can be considered positive.
