Write the measures of controlling environmental degradation in the Terai region of Nepal.

Nepal has great geographical diversity. The ecosystem of each geographical division differs from another. Human activities have adverse effects in the Terai region. To reduce these effects, Mitigating measures need to be implemented. Some of such mitigating measures for the adverse effects in the Terai region of Nepal are discussed below:

Conservation of Forests

• Afforestation can be taken as the major way of conserving the forests.
• Awarding the public on the importance of the forest in another measure.
• Public participation in the conservation programs and awareness programs.
• Reduction in deforestation.
• Forming of community forest and conservation parks for trees.

Conservation of land

• Control on overexploitation of land
• Minimize the use of chemical fertilizers.
• Encourage the use of organic fertilizers.
• Managed and scientific way of farming.

Livestock farming management

• Limited grazing area
• Control on overgrazing problem
• Plant the fodder plants and trees in the grazing areas.

Construction work and conservation

• Well planning and managing construction works should carry out
• Conservation programmers should be conducted.
• Awareness of the importance of planned construction work should be done.

Industrial development and pollution control

• The wise use of the available resource
• Afforestation
• Sustainable use of the solid waste
• Reduction of the discharge of industrial waste in water and land resource.
