What is the temperature ? Write the main difference between heat and temperature on the basis of molecular motion.

1 Answer

The average kinetic energy of all vibrating molecules is called temperature . On the basis of molecular motion , the total kinetic energy of the whole molecules of a substance is heat and average kinetic energy of the molecule is the temperature.

The difference between heat and temperature is given below :

  Heat Temperature
1.  It measures total K.E of all molecules of the body. It measures average K.E of the molecules of the body.
2.  It is cause of change in the temperature.  It is an effect of heat.
3.  Its SI unit is joule.  Its SI unit is kelvin.
4.  It is measured by caloriemeter.  It is measured by thermometer.

When we talk about the heat we are referring to the total kinetic energy of the particles in an object or substance. Temperature is related to heat but is not the same. It is measured in and refers to how hot or cold a substance it. ... Temperature is the average kinetic energy of the particles in a substance.Heat describes the transfer of thermal energy between molecules within a system and is measured in Joules. Heat measures how energy moves or flows. ... Temperature describes the average kinetic energy of molecules within a material or system and is measured in Celsius (°C), Kelvin(K), Fahrenheit (°F), or Rankine (R).

heat is the total energy of the motion of the molecules inside the object or particle, whereas Temperature is merely a measure of this energy. The relationship could be, the more heated an object is there higher the temperature the object will have.Adding heat to something increases its temperature, but heat is not the same as temperature. The temperature of an object is the measure of the average speed of the moving particles in it. The energy of the particles is called the internal energy.Heat is the form of energy that is transferred between systems or objects with different temperatures (flowing from the high-temperature system to the low-temperature system). Also referred to as heat energy or thermal energy. Heat is typically measured in Btu, calories or joules.

The quantitative relationship between heat transfer and temperature change contains all three factors: Q = mcΔT, where Q is the symbol for heat transfer, m is the mass of the substance, and ΔT is the change in temperature. The symbol c stands for specific heat and depends on the material and phase.
