What is solenoid? or Explain the term solenoid in detail.

A solenoid is a long coiled wire inside which magnetic material can be used.

A solenoid is a basic term for a coil of wire that we use as an electromagnet. We also refer to the device that can convert electrical energy into mechanical energy as a solenoid. Actually it generates a magnetic field for creating linear motion from the electric current. With the use of a magnetic field.

Solenoid valves are control units which, when electrically energized or de-energized, either shut off or allow fluid flow. The actuator takes the form of an electromagnet. When energized, a magnetic field builds up which pulls a plunger or pivoted armature against the action of a spring. The solenoid is designed to operate on 24 volts AC which is supplied by the furnace. It does not require either a positive or negative connection since it should not be wired to 24 volts DC. It should not matter which wire is connected to the existing wires as there should only be the 2 wires from the old solenoid.

Most 3 post solenoids have their base or mounting grounded, so when a signal comes from the start switch, it flows through the coil pulling in the contact, and continues to ground through the solenoid mount. *This is a basic wiring guide and will not cover every application or scenario.
