What is convex lens ? Why is it called a converging lens?

1 Answer

The lens which is thick at the middle and thin at the edge is called a convex lens.

When the parallel rays fall on the convex lens, it converges the parallel rays to a pointy after refraction through the lens. So, a convex lens is known as converging lens.

A double convex lens, or converging lens, focuses the diverging, or blurred, light rays from a distant object by refracting (bending) the rays twice. ... This double bending causes the rays to converge at a focal point behind the lens so that a sharper image can be seen or photographed.A convex lens is also called a converging lens because it makes parallel light rays passing through it bend inward and meet (converge) at a spot just beyond the lens known as the focal point.
