What are the nature of images when object is at infinity?

1 Answer

The nature of image are :

  • Real
  • Point shape
  • Diminished and at focus (F) image will form.

Object at infinity:- Since parallel rays coming from the object converge at principal focus, F of a concave mirror; after reflection. Hence, when the object is at infinity the image will form at F. Real and inverted. When an object is at infinity, then the rays coming from it is almost parallel to principal axis. Hence the image formed is at focus.

Suppose an object is placed u cm in front of a spherical mirror of focal length f such that the image is formed v cm from the mirror, then u, v and f are related by the equation; 1/f= 1/u + 1/v. This equation is referred to as the mirror formula. The formula holds for both concave and convex mirrors.

In optics and photography, infinity focus is the state where a lens or other optical system forms an image of an object an infinite distance away. This corresponds to the point of focus for parallel rays. ... The magnification is equal to the focal length of the objective lens divided by the focal length of the eyepiece.

The image formed in a convex mirror is always virtual and erect, whatever be the position of the object. ... When an object is placed at infinity, a virtual image is formed at the focus.A convex mirror is a diverging mirror and forms only one type of image, namely a virtual image.
