Water in the earthen pot remains cold in summer . Why is this happening ?

1 Answer

The earthen pot has so many pores on it. When water is heated inside , hot water oozes out through the pores into the atmosphere. This means that only the cold water remains inside the pot. So, water cools inside the earthen pot.

Water placed in earthen pots is evaporated from minuscule pores it has as it is made of mud particles. ... This evaporation of water produces a cooling effect. Some of the heat energy that is generated is used in the process of evaporation. Hence, water stored in earthen pots tends to become cooler in summer.Place the pot on a sturdy table near the window. The breeze will help keep the water cool. During the hot months you may want to wrap a clean moist cloth around the matka for quicker cooling. Some believe keeping the ghada away from the light and in total darkness could keep the water way cooler than anything.

We store water in matkas (earthen pots) to keep water cool. It is due to evaporation of water and earthen pots also have small holes so that air can easily pass. The vitamins and minerals from the water stored in clay pots will help in maintaining the body glucose levels and will also provide a gentle cooling effect to your body. The human body is acidic in nature, while clay is alkaline.Firstly, clay pots add many important nutrients like calcium, phosphorous, iron, magnesium and sulfur to food, which are extremely beneficial to our body. Clay is also alkaline and thus, acts neutralized the acidity in the food, which makes it easier for us to digest.

If we pour drinking water in a mud pot and keep it for about two to five hours, the mud pot will absorb all the bad elements from the water and give Earth Energy to that water. Mud pot is the best water filter in the whole world.Clay cooking pots are porous in nature. This means food will pass through the vessel and interact with the vessel. This is generally healthy and expected. However, if there are heavy materials like Lead and Arsenic it ruins the benefits of earthen pots.
