The fluorescent lamp of 60 Wis brighter than filament lamp of same power, why ?

1 Answer

The efficiency of the fluorescent lamp is greater than that of the filament lamp so that the brightness of fluorescent lamp is more than filament lamp though they are of the same power. As we know that the fluorescent lamp converts 30% of electrical energy into light whereas filament lamp converts only 10% electrical energy into light energy.

The phosphor fluoresces to produce light. A fluorescent bulb produces less heat, so it is much more efficient. A fluorescent bulb can produce between 50 and 100 lumens per watt. This makes fluorescent bulbs four to six times more efficient than incandescent bulbs.
T5s are fluorescent tubes that are 5/8 of an inch in diameter. These are the newest development in the fluorescent family. Although they are the smallest, they are the most energy efficient and brightest. In fact, some T5s last up to 90,000 hours.
However, as technology has made advances in recent years to offer more energy efficient lighting, LED and fluorescent (CFL) bulbs outshine the traditional incandescent bulb in more ways than just brightness.
Light levels decrease over time because of aging lightbulbs and dirt on fixtures, bulbs and room surfaces. ... Common bulbs, especially incandescent and fluorescent lamps, lose 20 to 30 percent of their light output over their service life.
Fluorescent tubes & CFL bulbs contain a small amount of mercury gas (about 4 mg) – which is toxic to our nervous system, lungs and kidneys. So long as bulbs stay intact, the mercury gas is no threat. This means bulbs should be handled properly to avoid
