How is tidal energy used ? or Describe usage of tidal energy in detail.

1 Answer

The tides occurring in the sea or ocean is of two types:

high tide  and low tide

High tides are trapped in the dam which is constructed near the sea or ocean where large amount of water moves at a time. The water then left to go again towards the sea or ocean by rotating the turbine. In this way electricity is produced through it.

During high tide, when the level of water in the sea is high, sea-water flows into the reservoir of the barrage and turns the turbines. The turbines then turn the generator shaft to produce electricity. There are currently three different ways to get tidal energy: tidal streams, barrages, and tidal lagoons. For most tidal energy generators, turbines are placed in tidal streams. A tidal stream is a fast-flowing body of water created by tides. A turbine is a machine that takes energy from a flow of fluid.

Tidal energy is a form of hydropower that works by harnessing the kinetic energy created from the rise and fall of ocean tides and currents, also called tidal flows, and turns it into usable electricity. ... Tides fluctuate thanks to the gravitational pull of the sun and moon.Tidal energy is created using the movement of our tides and oceans, where the intensity of the water from the rise and fall of tides is a form of kinetic energy. Tidal power surrounds gravitational hydropower, which uses the movement of water to push a turbine to generate electricity.

Basic principle of tidal power plant A dam is constructed in such a way that a basin gets separated from the sea and a difference in the water level is obtained between the basin and sea. The constructed basin is filled during high tide and emptied during low tide passing through sluices and turbine respectively.
