How can a galvanometer be converted into a voltmeter? Explain

1 Answer

Conversion of galvanometer into voltmeter

The galvanometer is converted into a voltmeter by connecting high resistance R in series with the galvanometer. The voltage across the voltmeter is

\(V=Ig(G+R)\)
Or, \(R=\frac V{Ig}-G\)

Knowing the value of V, Ig , and G, R can be calculated.
