Find the work done by a boy if he applies the force of 5N to displace a book through 20 cm.
1 Answer
Solution:
Given,
Force applied on the book (F) = 5 N,
Displacement made by the book due to force (d) = 20 cm = 0.2 m,
Work done to displace the book (W) =?
We have, work done (W) = Force (F) × displacement (d)
= F × d
= 5 × 0.2
= 1 joule
∴ The work done to displace the book is 1 joule.
Things to remember from Work
- Work is said to be done if any object changes its position by the application of force on it.
- The SI unit of work is the joule
- Generally, there are two types of work
- work against gravity,
- work against friction.
- The work done by an object is zero if
- Displacement is zero, and
- Force is perpendicular to the displacement.
