Calculate the bulk modulus of a liquid in which longitudinal waves with a frequency of 250 Hz have the wavelength of 8m and the density of the liquid is 900 kg/m^3.
1 Answer
Solution
Given,
Frequency of longitudinal wave (f) = 250 Hz
The wavelength of longitudinal wave (λ) = 8m
The density of liquid (ρ) = 900 kgm-3
Bulk modulus (B) = ?
We have,
v = f x λ = 250 x 8 = 2000 m/s
Velocity of longitudinal wave in liquid is
\(v=\sqrt{\frac B\rho}\)
Or, \(2000=\sqrt{\frac B{900}}\)
Or, B = (2000)2 x 900
∴ B = 3.6 x 109 N/m2
