A wooden block has 30*20*15cm which floats on density 1g/cm^3. Calculate the height of block that is outside water.
1 Answer
GIVEN ,
VOLUME OF WOOD vo= 30 * 20 * 15 = 9000cm3
density of wood, do = 0.8
density of water, dl = 1
volume of liquid displaced vl = ?
for floaqtation ,
vo do g = vl dl g
vl = ( vo do )/ dl
vl = 7200 cm3
This volume of wood inside water .
So, volume of wood outside water = 900 cm3 -7200 cm3
= 1800 cm3
Part of wood that remains outside = 1800 / 900
= 1/ 5
Hence, 1/5 th of its height remains above the water
that is 1/5 *15
= 3 cm
therefore, 3 cm of wood remains outside the water.
