Dowry is the system wherein parents give materialistic thing to their daughter during wedding. It is a culture that is practiced worldwide and very much in southeast Asia. It can be anything from T.V sets to radio, furniture, household appliance, motorbike, VCR, whatever the groom family asks for .Traditionally in Veda and old books it was the things or possessions that girls parents would give with love but in modern world like everything else it is also exploited. 

Giving and taking dowry is illegal In Nepal. It is a bad custom. But people still do it as parents want to find good husband for their daughter and make their daughters life easier. It is a bad influence in society with very deep roots emotionally and culturally. Some daughter in laws are killed fr dowry or are tortured by the husbands family still. Even in families that get dowry have seen to torture the bride for more or given mental emotional trauma for the same. Many poor parents are compelled to mortgage or sell their property to provide dowry for their daughter. This is also a reason why daughters are considered to be a burden in the Nepali society. 

Many family are ruined due to dowry, people die, property are lost and are deep in sadness because of dowry system. Many people treat sacred marriage ceremony as business for dowry. It is shameful and morally wrong. Giving and taking dowry has been in Nepali society for so long that it is very difficult to remove. The new generation has to work hard from both male and female side to stop this practice .We must educate children about the bad practice so that future generation can say no to dowry in future. W e must also educate and liberate the girls in order to make them independent so that the daughter can be against such wrong doing in society and speak for her rights freely. 

 Dowry system t be renounced fro Nepal and our society we as an individual must deny taking or giving dowry, change has to stat from family to change the nation.
