Industries produce many things for us and in this modern age and era industries have revolutionized the way we live. The role of industry is very much embedded in our lives, the industries not only provide us with a livelihood, provide job opportunities but also use raw materials locally available and untapped. There are various type of industries classified depending on the numbers of employees and scale of the business economically. In Nepal there are many cottage industries in comparison to large scale industries and research shows that the cottage industries are more important than the large scale industries for a developing nation like Nepal.

Cottage  industries are small scaled , decentralized industries which have accessibility to raw materials, low costs of operation, and proximity to markets. Cottage industries can be started from home with small number of employees. Cottage industry are very important for developing country like Nepal as they need less investment, manpower and capital. Some of the important cottage industries in Nepal are weaving clothes, garments, carpet, pottery, carving, making bamboo baskets, utensils, shoes etc. Most of the cottage industries in Nepal are seasonal as the people use their leisure time to produce the products using their various skill to earn extra money. But it can be developed into a full scale business with proper help and knowledge. 

Cottage industries have been very helpful to Nepalese people as the cottage industries have helped in improving economic condition of Nepalese people and in term increasing the national revenue of the country. More than 90 percent of people in Nepal are farmers but since the farming and agriculture depends on season in Nepal, as the agriculture industry is mostly traditional. The farmers engage in farming seasonally and do not have any work for the remaining time of the year. They have to stay idle in off seasons. With the help of cottage industries the Nepalese wont just be getting more jobs and using their time to improve their economic condition but cottage industry can also help the Nepalese become business owners and entrepreneurs. This can boost the yearly revenue of the Nepal and improve the economy of Nepal, fastening the process of becoming a developed country from a developing country. 

Cottage industries  play a key role in development and prosperity of Nepal. The government can ease the process for Nepalese citizen by promoting different cottage industries, sustaining and providing helpful loans and skillful training to the existing cottage industries. The government can increase interest of farmers in cottage industries by providing financial help and easy extraction of available raw materials to run such cottage industries. 

Hence, to develop, prosper and win the race towards a better future, a better tomorrow and a better Nepal. We must build the foundation of the nation strong and Cottage industries are the foundation for Nepal.
