As we go up in troposphere, temperature goes on decreasing , why?

Troposphere contains gas like carbon dioxide which is heavier than other gases an absorbs heat coming from the sun, Similarly, the air nearest to the earth's surface becomes hot due to the reflection of heat into this layer from the earth surface. hence, lower layer of troposphere is hotter than the top.
