What is mineral oil? How does it form?
1 Answer
Mineral oil is the crude liquid present inside the pores of sedimentary rock formed from the remnants of plants and animals which gets buried inside the earth crust for millions of year.
When dead parts of plants and animals get buried inside the earth by mud or sand under pressure then soft parts start to decay and hard part preserved inside the sedimentary rock. Sedimentary rock itself changed into hard due to pressure of the crust and by the action of bacteria the dead bodies were converted into dark liquid trapped in the pores of the rock and collected between two impermeable rocks in the form of crude oil. In this way mineral oil is formed.
