The heart muscles relax and ventricles filled with the blood. The blood pressure during that period is called diastolic blood pressure. In adult it is 80 mm Hg.

The diastolic reading, or the bottom number, is the pressure in the arteries when the heart rests between beats. This is the time when the heart fills with blood and gets oxygen. A normal diastolic blood pressure is lower than 80.For a normal reading, your blood pressure needs to show a top number (systolic pressure) that's between 90 and less than 120 and a bottom number (diastolic pressure) that's between 60 and less than 80.

A high diastolic blood pressure (80 mm Hg or higher) that stays high over time means you have high blood pressure, or hypertension, even when systolic blood pressure is normal. Causes of diastolic high blood pressure include both lifestyle factors and genetics, but the disease is multifactorial.Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers have been shown to be effective in improvement of measures of diastolic function and are recommended as first-line agents in the control of hypertension in patients with diastolic heart failure.
