What is a fossil, how does it form?
1 Answer
Fossil is the remains or impression of dead body of ancient plant or animal preserved in the sedimentary rock.
The dead bodies of plants or animals are deposited at the bottom of the sea, ocean or due to various disturbances like earthquakes, volcanoes etc, they get buried under the earth and soft part of dead bodies decay while the hard part of dead bodies remain as fossils inside the sedimentary rocks. In this way, fossils are formed.
Fossils are formed in different ways, but most are formed when a plant or animal dies in a watery environment and is buried in mud and silt and over time sediment builds over the top and hardens into rock.It takes around 10,000 years to form a fossil.
