Define the term system.

List different stages of the system development life cycle.

Highlight the importance of the first two stages.

1 Answer

System

A system is a collection of interrelated components that work together to achieve a common goal. It is a set of processes and procedures that transform data into information and knowledge. It is derived from the Latin word "systema", which means to "place together" all functioning units.

The system of three basic components:

  1. Input: It is used for entering the data in a system to be processed. For example, raw materials, data, and human effort must be secured and organized for processing.

  2. Processing: It involves transformation processes that convert input into output. An example is the cash transaction process in a banking system, the exam result processing.

  3. Output: It gives a transformation process to their goal. An example is a manufactured product.

Different Stages of System Development Lise Cycle (SDLC)

The different stages of the system development life cycle are:

  1. System study or preliminary Investigation or Problem Definition

  2. System Analysis or Determination of System Requirements.

  3. System Design

  4. System Development

  5. System Testing and conversion

  6. System Implementation

  7. System Maintainance and Reviews

System Study:

This is the first step of SDLC. This phase is also called as preliminary Investigation or problem identification or problem recognition phase. This phase is focused on determining whether or not a new system should be developed and the development team focuses on mainly following issues:

    1. Survey the system study by collecting the inputs from different sources.
    2. Information can be gathered from users, executive managers within the organization, and even system developers.
    3. Analyzing problems with the current system (manual or automated) in-depth and developing possible alternative solutions to the problem.
    4. Selecting the best solution and defining its function with a feasibility study or alternatives system is identified.

System Analysis:

System analysis is the process of analyzing a system and trying to find a way to modify it and create a new system to meet the user's needs. During system analysis, data are collected from the various available sources by using tools such as interviews, on-site observation, questionnaires, sampling, research, and documentation.

During this stage, all procedure requirements must be analyzed and documented. System Analysis includes sub-dividing the complex process, identification of data store, and manual processes too. Finally, system analysis determines the shape, form, and strength capability of the system.
