Differentiate between tricuspid valve and mitral valve.

1 Answer

The difference between tricuspid and mitral valve is given below:

  Tricuspid valve  Mitral valve
1. It consists of three flaps It consists of two flaps.
2. It is prsent in the opening of right auricle and left auricle.  It is present in the opening of left auricle and left ventricle.

The tricuspid valve — which lies between the two chambers on the right side of your heart — consists of three flaps of tissue called leaflets. The tricuspid valve opens when blood flows from the right atrium to the right ventricle. The mitral valve separates the two chambers (atrium and ventricle) of the left side of the heart. In mitral valve prolapse, the leaflets of the mitral valve bulge (prolapse) into the left atrium like a parachute during the heart's contraction.
