JAIPUR: In an effort to provide superior video and data services, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has launched the ambitious Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) service for the first time in the country at Jaipur.
The FTTH service was inaugurated by minister of state for communications & IT Sachin Pilot in the presence of BSNL CMD Kuldeep Goyal and G K Agrawal, CGM, BSNL Rajasthan circle here on Saturday. While 68 buildings have already been provided fibre connectivity, work is in progress at about 200 buildings and complexes.
The service, jointly launched by BSNL and AKSH Optifibre Ltd, will provide multiplay services with high definition content for its 35,000-plus customers in six districts of Rajasthan namely Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Ajmer, Kota and Alwar. The FTTH network has been built on the Gigabyte Passive Optical Technology.
With the launch of FTTH technology, BSNL would be able to offer high-speed broadband access up to 1000 Mbps and a plethora of services based on Triple Play (voice-video-data) services like IPTV, HDTV, 3DTV, video on demand, bandwidth on demand, video conferencing, interactive gaming, and several other value added services. The optic fibre technology, which replaces traditional copper-line with optical fibre, also called the last mile connectivity,' can deliver world-class Triple Play experience to the consumers.
The FTTH service relies on a Self-Healing Network, which is able to provide seamless services, even in case of damaged optical fibre when the information will be routed through another line.
