Bluetooth is one of the first wireless technology for transmitting data mostly in fixed and mobile electronic devices. Bluetooth was introduced in 1994 as a wireless (unguided media) substitute for RS-232 cables. Bluetooth transfers digital signals from one device to another using electromagnetic wave in the frequency range of 2.4 GHz band. Bluetooth is suitable for short range wireless communication.
Uses of Bluetooth are:
- Wireless control and communication between mobile and hands-free headsets.
- Wireless networking between multiple computers in area with limited service.
- Wireless communication with Personal Computers and Peripheral input/output (I/O) devices.
- It is used to replace guided communication media in the short range.
- It is mostly used in those devices where higher bandwidth is not required for operation.
The name Bluetooth comes from the Scandinavian word Blåtand/Blåtann, which originated from Harald "Bluetooth" Gormsson I, from Denmark and parts of Norway. He was a king, reined in the tenth century and united discordant Danish tribes into a single kingdom. Bluetooth established the name to indicate that they united communication protocols into one universal standard.
