Superstition ideas are more individual. It depends solely on an individual what they decide to believe or not believe. Many superstitious belief are passed on the us by our parents, family members. Superstitious believe can be stored unconsciously in our mind and can regulate our thinking and decision making patterns. They do not serve any practical purpose. Superstitious believe are likely to be less in individual who are confident an who believe in themselves.
The superstitious belief in society is passed on to the younger generation to grow inhibition in people. Some of the superstitious believe taught to children are
- we should not cross the road if we see black cat cussing the road
- we should not touch our books by our feet
- we should always put left shoes first
- nails should not be trimmed after dark
- women should not sow the land
These are some of the superstitious belief of our communities in Nepal. Different countries have different superstitious belief. These belief are taught to children at an young age which makes getting rid of them in adulthood very hard. Even in modern countries there are some superstitious which have become part of tradition and culture of the society. Example groom can not see the brides face on the day of marriage, broken mirror are bad omens.
Many people hold such ideal in the world. There are no logical or scientific reasons behind it but we still tend to believe them. Most of the people who believe in these men or superstitions are mostly religious. They explain their belief in name of god or say that it is gods doing. Superstition are different to customs and tradition but are still embedded in society. It is a morality law which is present in society but is unspoken of. The people who believe in it believe that it bind s the society to some laws which can not be disregarded in particular society.
Whether top believe in them or not is our choice. Many individual also make their own new superstition with passing time. There is no actual story or point at which superstition were introduced in our society. But the fact is they do exist in our society and control the life and behavior of those that believe in superstition. An individual , an adult must decide whether they want to follow them or not.
