Cranial nerve controls the activities of ear, nose, tongue, eyes, etc.
Some of the cranial nerves are involved in the special senses (such as seeing, hearing, and taste), and others control muscles in the face or regulate glands. The individual nerves, cranial nerve pair have their unique function which are as follows:
Olfactory nerve gives sense of smell, Optic nerve transmits visual information, Occulomotor, trochlear, and abducen nerve work for coordination of the eye movement. Trigeminal nerve provides sensation to skinof the face and controls muscle for chewing. The facial nerve controls muscles of facial expression. The vestibulocochlear nerve help in balance and hearing. The glossopharyngeal nerve helps one muscle in the neck to control and gives sensation to back of tongue. The vagus nerve controls organs in chest and abdomen, neck. The accesory nerve controls muscle of the upper back and one muscle in neck. The hypoglosal nerve controls tongue movement.
