Many harmful gases in the atmosphere are released from the large industries or from household like carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, etc. Thus, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide dissolves in rain forming carbonic acid or sulfuric acid which is called acid rain. Its effects are:
- Acid rain corrodes buildings, valuable idols, manuscripts and arts in stone.
- Acid rain turns soil acidic. So, for long time it decreases fertility of soil.
