There are two types of nerve tissue in PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM. They are :
- Cranial nerve tissue
- Spinal nerve tissue
Cranial Nerves. The cranial nerves are composed of twelve pairs of nerves that emanate from the nervous tissue of the brain. In order to reach their targets they must ultimately exit/enter the cranium through openings in the skull. Hence, their name is derived from their association with the cranium.
Spinal nerve is a mixed nerve, which carries motor, sensory, and autonomic signals between the spinal cord and the body. In the human body there are 31 pairs of spinal nerves, one on each side of the vertebral column.
