Heat absorbed by a body is directly proportional to its specific heat capacity. That is higher the value of specific heat capacity, higher the absorption of heat by the body. Water has very high specific capacity as compared with other liquids. Thus, it will absorb a large amount of heat from the hot engine without appreciable rise in temperature of water. So, Water is used to cool the engines of vehicles.
