Some stones are formed from the decaying matter of the living ornganisms in the ocean. The outer covering of some marine animals is made of shell. The shell is the protective body covering of marine animals. After the death of such animals the shells bones may take the form of stones. Such stones contain the lime. Limestones may contain the fossils. The existence of fossils in the rock helps to determine the type of life existing particular time.
