The constitution of Nepal - 2072 was promulgated on 3r Aswin, 2072. The constitution promulgated by the historical Constituent Assembly has 35 parts, 308 articles and 9 schedules.
The salient features of the Constitution of Nepal - 2072
- There shall be Federal Democratic Republic ruling system in the country.
- Sovereignty is vested in Nepali citizens.
- The structure of the state shall be of three levels i.e. Federal, Provincial and Local.
- There are seven provinces in a country.
- President is elected by the electoral college of the members of Federal Parliament and Provincial Assembly.
- The executive power of the country is vested in Council of Ministers.
- There is provision of mixed election system i.e. direct nd proportionate ( in the ratio of 60:40)
- There is provision of bicameral Federal Legislature i.e. House of Representatives and National Assembly (and Unicameral Provincial Assembly)
- There will be 550 members in the Provincial Assembly of seven provinces, 275 members in the House of Representatives and 59 members in the National Assembly.
- There will be 25 ministers in the federal government.
- Separate commissions are formed for women, dalit, madhesi, muslim, tharu, adhibasi, janajati, etc.
- Nepal is a secular country with the protection of all eternal religions.
- There are 35 parts, 308 articles and 9 schedules.
- There shall be three layers of court i.e. Supreme court, High court and District court with a separate constitutional Bench.
- President shall be the head of the state while Prime minister as the head of the Executive.
- Vote of No confidence cannot be presented against the government before 2 years from the date of its formation.
