Bases of acquiring the citizenship certificate ( Types of Nepali citizenship certificates)

1. | Citizenship by descent(Natural) |
Citizenship certificate acquired by the children born from the Nepali citizenship holder parents is called citizenship by descent. Children whose parent have acquired citizenship by birth before the commencement of this constitution also can get citizenship by descent. A person born to mother with Nepali citizenship but whose father is unknown also gets citizenship by descent. Every child found in border of Nepal with his/her father or mother unknown gets citizenship by birth until the parents are known.

2. | Citizenship by birth ( naturalized) |
A foreign woman married to a Nepali man can get citizenship by birth. But she should give up citizenship of her motherland. A child born to a Nepali women who is married to a foreigner may acquire citizenship by birth If a person conferred to citizenship by descent is found to be the child of a foreigner father, his her citizenship is converted to be the citizenship by birth. |
3. | Non residential Nepalese citizenship |
Nepalese citizen by origin living in foreign country as non residential Nepalese can acquire such citizenship Such citizenship can be given to those living in abroad except the SAARC countries. People conferred with such citizenship can enjoy social, economic and cultural rights of Nepal but can't enjoy the political rights. |
4. | Honorary Citizenship |
The foreigner who has contributed in highlighting the name fame and glory of Nepal can be conferred with honorary citizenship. Citizenship given to Sir Edmund Hillary of NewZealand and Tony Hagen of Switzerland is the example of honorary citizenship. |
